Embracing Diversity and Inclusion in Digital Marketing

June is here and with it comes Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, honour their history, and advocate for equality and inclusion. At Digital Stylist, we believe that diversity is not just a buzzword, but a fundamental value that drives creativity, innovation, and connection in the digital world.

This Pride month we wanted to celebrate inclusivity by sharing our ideas and campaigns on how you can help support pride.

Why Pride Month Matters in Digital Marketing

Pride Month is more than just a celebration; it’s an opportunity to reflect on the importance of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of life, including the workplace and the digital space. For digital marketing, this means:

  • Representation: Ensuring that marketing campaigns reflect the diverse audiences they aim to reach.

  • Authenticity: Creating content that genuinely supports and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community, rather than just capitalising on the month.

  • Engagement: Building meaningful connections with LGBTQ+ audiences through respectful and inclusive marketing practices.

How you can support pride:

  1. Workplace Campaigns - Being in the hair and beauty sector it is important that you embrace diversity and inclusivity for the sake of not only your customers but staff members too. Organising campaigns in the workplace such as ‘rainbow day’ or sharing staff members' stories can benefit you in the workplace massively. It shows the dedication and support you give to making sure everyone feels welcome. This can then be posted on social media to show your engaging followers the support you give.

  1. Creating your own pride # - Posting about pride on social media is the best way to let your followers know your encouragement and support to be inclusive within the business. There are ways you can make this more creative and engaging for your audience. Creating your own hashtag for example and pictures of different rainbow hair colours can make your content more engaging.

  1. Posting multiple times throughout the month in different content styles - Pride goes on throughout the whole month of June so creating engaging content such as reels, carousel posts etc throughout the whole month shows both support and engaging content.

4.) Supporting charities - There are many charities that you can donate for example; Black Trans Alliance, Stonewall, Galop and many more. Donating to charities will show your support but you can also run fundraiser days within your salon which can be posted on your stories and across social media in support of raising money for the charities.

5.) Promoting products / promotional offers - Having product offers for pride can be a great way to show your support and engagement. You could also have a percentage of the funds go to a charity. Having promotional offers could be a great idea with linking to pride so for the month of June anyone that has rainbow colours gets 20% off.

Tips for Inclusive Digital Marketing

We encourage other digital marketers to embrace diversity not just during Pride Month, but all year round. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Listen and Learn: Engage with LGBTQ+ communities to understand their needs, preferences, and perspectives.

  • Be Genuine: Ensure your support for LGBTQ+ issues is authentic and not just a marketing ploy.

  • Use Inclusive Language: Be mindful of the language you use in your campaigns to ensure it’s inclusive and respectful.

  • Diversify Your Team: A diverse team can offer valuable insights and ideas that lead to more inclusive marketing strategies.

Conclusion

Pride Month is a powerful reminder of the importance of diversity and inclusion in all aspects of our lives, including digital marketing. At Digital Stylist, we are proud to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community through our work and beyond. Join us in making the digital world a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.
